Wrocław Zoo covers around 33 hectares and is one of the largest zoos in Poland. Inside you’ll find hundreds of animal species, large themed pavilions, and several attractions that are absolutely worth seeing during your first visit. If you don’t want to walk around without a plan and later discover you skipped the best areas — this guide will help you create a sensible route.
No. 1: Afrykarium – the main attraction at Wrocław Zoo
Afrykarium is where most visitors begin their zoo experience. It’s a unique African ecosystem complex unlike anything else in Poland, featuring huge aquariums, underwater tunnels, manatees, African penguins, sharks, and reef fish.
The biggest crowds appear here from late morning into the afternoon, so it’s best to enter Afrykarium as early as possible. If you have limited time, this is definitely the part of the zoo you should start with.
No. 2: Elephants and large mammal enclosures
The elephant, giraffe, zebra, and hippo enclosures are among the most popular areas of Wrocław Zoo. It’s a large open zone where many visitors end up spending more time than expected — especially during feeding sessions or morning activity hours.
This section of the zoo is located relatively close to Afrykarium, so most people visit it immediately after leaving the pavilion.
No. 3: Big cats and predators
Lions, tigers, and other large predators have always been among the zoo’s most visited enclosures. Crowds usually gather during feeding demonstrations, although schedules may change seasonally or for organizational reasons.
It’s best to check the latest information near the zoo entrance or on information boards inside the zoo.
No. 4: Reptile House – one of the zoo’s most underrated areas
Crocodiles, giant snakes, exotic lizards, and other reptiles make a much stronger impression in real life than in photos. Many visitors skip the Reptile House during their first walk through the zoo and later realize it turned out to be one of the most interesting parts of the visit.
It’s also a very good choice during rainy weather or winter, since the entire building is indoors.
No. 5: Primate Pavilion
Chimpanzees, gorillas, and other primates are among the most fascinating residents of the zoo. Many visitors stay here longer than planned — mostly because monkey behavior often feels surprisingly similar to human emotions and social interactions.
The biggest crowds usually gather around the chimpanzee and gorilla enclosures.
